05/02/2002
Telekom Austria (TA) announced that its new wire-line organisation would form the basis for a comprehensive market offensive in 2002.
In this new organisation, TA's key account division is to be merged with Datakom Austria's sales division to form a joint "business solutions" unit. All access-related internet activities for Jet2Web Internet Services will be reintegrated into Telekom Austria.
As of the end of December 2001, the company’s fixed line market share was slightly more than 56 per cent. This represents a reduction of 0.9 percentage points in the fourth quarter of 2001, compared to a 1.4 and 1.2 per cent reduction in the second and third quarters respectively.
This year, Telekom Austria's management board will focus on the development of the broadband market. By the end of December 2001, TA had gained 100,000 ADSL customers. This figure is expected to double by December 2002.
The total number of Telekom Austria internet users in increased by 122 per cent to 656,000 by the end of 2001, compared to the same period in 2000.
Across the country 77 per cent of households will be able to receive ADSL services in 2002. In urban areas ADSL coverage will increase to 98 per cent.
Along with increased ADSL coverage, TA is also planning to enhance the attractiveness of the ADSL download limit and transmission rate.

by Danny Sullivan, Editor
The Search Engine Report

Now things are heating up in Europe, and unlike in the US, Overture faces competition for major partners in the form of United Kingdom-based Espotting. Espotting's success against Overture is unprecedented, when you compare it to the US experience. A look at how the two companies are squaring off, via the URL below. The second URL is a longer version of the article available to Search Engine Watch members.
