New study shatters Internet 'geek' image
LONDON, England (Reuters) --The typical Internet user -- far from being a geek -- shuns television and actively socializes with friends, a study on surfing habits said on Wednesday.
The findings of the first World Internet Project report present an image of the average Netizen that contrasts with the stereotype of the loner "geek" who spends hours of his free time on the Internet and rarely engages with the real world.
Instead, the typical Internet user is an avid reader of books and spends more time engaged in social activities than the non-user, it says. And, television viewing is down among some Internet users by as much as five hours per week compared with Net abstainers, the study added.

abandoned bikes in nyc
when i lived in the city, i always wanted to create a photo album like this. now i can vicariously live out my dream thanks to the wonders of weblogs. ;-)
the photos are what you would expect, however, i think the naïveté of the blogger is even better than the pics. obviously, the guy ain't a local.
"New York has a lot of abandoned bicycles. I don't know why. Do people forget the combinations or keys to their locks? Do they forget they had a bike? Most of the bikes pictured here are pretty cheap bikes. Some of the bikes appear to have been abandoned long ago. Consider this ever-growing photo album a way to remember those forgotten bicycles."
i would argue that people abandon their bikes in nyc after other people try and/or partially succeed in stealing them. the owner just leaves the remaining bike-let on the street. voila, an abandoned bike ...

Fontifier lets you use your own handwriting for the text you write on your computer. It turns a scanned sample of your handwriting into a computer font that you can use in your word processor or graphics program, just like regular fonts such as Helvetica.

These 9 drawings were done by an artist under the influence of LSD -- part of a test conducted by the US government during it's dalliance with psychotomimetic drugs in the late 1950's. The artist was given a dose of LSD 25 and free access to an activity box full of crayons and pencils. His subject is the medico that jabbed him.
