Al Hirschfeld, 99, has died.
I never met Al Hirschfeld, but I feel like I knew him ... at least a little bit. You can't live in the city and not recognize his art. It is hard to imagine the number of times I have either read a paper or magazine, or had dinner and jazz at the Knickerbocker with Al Hirschfeld's art
It is also hard to imagine the city without him.
