The trouble with Bulmers I've got a big problem with the Bulmers campaign, and I've decided to rant about it. Maybe it is because I'm a yank here in England, but I don't get it. Their ads are all about "The English Summer" and cooling down when it gets so hot outside ... This one is called "Our Summer":

lol ... someone needs to get to Spain, quick! For the record, some summers have been long and hot (2006 springs to mind), but your broader point holds.
I just hope you don't let it affect your birthday celebrations. ;-)

Yeah, I was here in 2006. It was a pretty good summer. I remember being warm on my Vespa. That was nice. But, it was so ... long ... ago.
Are summers on a 3-year cycle? Will they return next year? If so, I'd suggest to Bulmers that they do better media planning and save things up for a big blitz every 36 months. ;)
As for me, I plan to escape to sunny southern Italy and Mexico in a couple weeks.
As for my b-day, the old man will be celebrating with a glass of hot mulled cider instead of a Bulmers on the rocks.
Thanks for the note David. Always nice to hear from you.

Actually you that you got it spot on. And you made me laugh out loud. The fact that you are wearing a jumper and the guy next to you is in his speedos sums it up perfectly.
In other words it's not about the weather, it's about the British approach to the weather. The fact we think 14 degrees is hot, the fact we go to music festivals and slide about on the mud, the fact that we have to microwave our barbecued food so it's cooked in the middle cause it got rained on - that's what makes the British summer.
As your countrymen at Harley Davidson once said "If I have to explain it, you wouldn't understand."

God I so agree! (Saying that while looking at a gray and overcast sky).
And by the way, a lot of the same could be said about the campaign Magners ran last winter. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=8wDVEh20kJs (Though I guess I does snow in other parts than London)
Overall, I think the best visual representation for UK weather would be a flatline.

You know, that campaign is meant to be ironic. Like when you say something but you actually mean the opposite?

Thanks for dropping by. Don't think it is ironic. Maybe I've missed something ...

I completely agree with Angus Walker. I am fiercely British and wouldn't want to live anywhere else. The "Great British Summer" is something that you obviously haven't seen. Yes, we do go wild thinking that 14 degrees is hot, yes, we love to slide around in the mud, yes, go music festivaling and handheld fans fill the shops the moment we see daffodils. The epicness of the British is that we can make the most of our sometimes rubbish weather, and make a joke of our antics and when it IS boiling hot (which it sometimes is) we spend our days in traffic jams trying to flood to the nearest beach.
The British are unique, quirky and damn we love our lycra, flip flops and socks & sandals combos. Don't pull it apart, the British are able to recognize the ridiculousness of what the Summer does to us and laugh at it, whist still enjoying it. It's this sort of thing that makes me want to grin with joy at being from where I am.
